A long long time ago there was a little girl who dreamed of being a successful writer. She wrote stories about pet skunks and first love, just for fun. She prayed for essay tests over multiple choice. She dreamed of being a published author one day.
As luck would have it this little idealistic girl had pragmatic parents who drew the line at paying for a college degree in any kind of writing. So this idealist pivoted and focused her studies on helping others and studied social work.
A true writer at heart, though, she took creative writing and poetry classes and excelled. Her writing skills would end up being a valuable asset in a paperwork filled career. She still wrote for free expression though too.
She wrote stories for her daughter as she grew up. She wrote an editorial column for a local newspaper for a year. She wrote a book and she started a blog. She even had a podcast for awhile.
“What lights you up?” That is the basic question that business and life coaches ask.
“So many things”, I would respond. “No. You have to have a niche, you have to pick one thing.”
What makes me light up is helping people on my own terms. I no longer wish to participate in someone else’s definition of ‘productive’. I love spending hours and hours writing and editing a piece I’ve been inspired to create. Sometimes it is a poem. Sometimes a short parable. Sometimes a blog post. Sometimes it’s an email.
Writing is the way I express my voice. I’m not always good at actually speaking up, in person, with my outdoor voice…but I’m getting better at that too.
Hours seem like minutes when I am engaged in a few activities – which is why picking a niche was never possible for me. Time flies when I’m writing. When I’m talking with someone about life and spiritual matters-(especially when I am present to hear “I never thought of it that way!”) When I’m talking with someone about self-healing. When I am advocating for someone. When I’m doing energy work. When I’m doing intuitive card readings. And, most especially, when I am helping souls transition. These are all things that make my heart sing. Make life worth living. Give meaning to my life. Give me purpose.
Writing for the sake of writing is superb in and of itself, but writing something that moves others is Divine, literally. To be used in such a way is an honor. Sometimes I can get too in my head about that and forget that I -me, my body, my human self- is not the creator. The Creator flows through me.
I forgot that recently and it plunged me into darkness. Like Alcatraz solitary confinement darkness. But I Remembered and I am making my comeback.
That leads me to introduce you to my latest writing, “The Pencil”, to which I affectionately describe as ‘The Egg and The Velveteen Rabbit had a baby’. The link is above.
Patreon is a place where creators can create and offer those creations to their community, for a small fee. At least for now it seems to be a format that is not endanger of disappearing, nor seems to be subject to censorship and algorithms.
It is a place where people who want to hear what I have to say, either in my writings, or my occasional video, can find me without relying on a feed or for-you page. If you know me, you can find me. You can click on the link and get instant access. Very different from finding me in your feed/FYP – or not.
So, please come help me build a community. Who knows where we will go with it? Maybe one day we will all get together in real life and have a participant led retreat. Tell me what you want to hear about. Send me questions to address or writing prompts to speak on. Give me a topic. Start a conversation.
There will be free content and there will be membership things. You can purchase The Pencil outright for $3 with no further obligation or you can get it with a basic membership for just $5 a month. There will be other tiers of membership as the community grows and I expand offerings. Things like live video gatherings. Webinars. Guided meditations. Everything is possible.
If you have an idea, share it with me. I am not looking to become a guru with a following. I am looking to be The Village Healer who ministers, reminds you of your power, and holds space for Spirit.
Please join me in this creation.
Sincerely,
Jade
